1. Before You Begin
Make sure you have the following ready before starting the installation:
- Grungard Gardener (Wi-Fi or Bluetooth) controller
- Existing 24V AC solenoid valves with labeled zone wires
- A Phillips-head screwdriver
- The Grungard mobile app installed on your phone
2. Mounting the Controller
Choose a sheltered location, ideally indoors or inside a valve box. The device should be protected from direct rain and extreme heat. Use the included mounting bracket to secure the controller to a wall or flat surface.
3. Wiring the Solenoid Valves
Each solenoid valve has two wires. Connect them as follows:
- Common (C) wire: Combine all common wires from every valve and connect them to the C terminal on the controller.
- Zone wires: Connect each valve's remaining wire to the corresponding zone terminal (Zone 1, Zone 2, etc.).
Tip: If wiring is exposed to moisture, use waterproof wire connectors for reliable insulation.
4. Powering On
Connect the controller to a 24V AC power source. When powered on, the device sends a brief test signal to each valve sequentially. You may hear a clicking sound from the solenoid coils — this is normal and confirms the device is working.
5. App Setup & Testing
- Open the Grungard app and scan the QR code on the device to begin pairing.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to connect the device to your Wi-Fi network (Wi-Fi models) or pair via Bluetooth.
- Once connected, use the "Water Now" button to test each zone individually.
After confirming all zones work correctly, you can create irrigation schedules and manage your system directly from the app.
